SIBO Test

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) occurs when bacteria normally found in the large intestine migrate to the small intestine and begin to colonize. Hydrogen (H₂) and methane (CH₄) gases are produced in the digestive system primarily by the bacterial fermentation of carbohydrates (sugars, starches, or vegetable fibers). The generation of H2 and/or CH4 will result in the absorption of some of these gases into the bloodstream from the site of their production, and they will appear in the expired air. Suppose either of the gases appears in the expired air. In that case, it is usually a signal that carbohydrates or carbohydrate fragments have been exposed to bacteria, permitting such fermentation to take place, and SIBO can be suspected.

Studies have indicated that potentially up to 80% of patients with IBS may in fact have SIBO, which this Hydrogen /Methane breath test can easily and non-invasively help determine.

How does it work?

A Breath Analysis test kit will be sent to you by mail. Once completed, a booking can be made with the designated courier to collect the kit (with no additional charges), which will be delivered to the laboratory for testing.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

All test kits are shipped and are expected to arrive within a few working days. The shipped test kits are considered concluded orders and are non-refundable any longer.

Average processing time:

18-21 days, after the test kits are returned to the lab. Return tests to the lab within 90 days of the order.

How do I take a sample?

All kits include straightforward instructions, allowing you to obtain a sample at home easily.

What will I receive after the test has been processed?

A report will then be generated with detailed information about the tested areas and recommended interventions. This test requires specialized knowledge for interpretation. You will be provided with a secure login on the lab platforms to view and download the results.

What happens after I receive the results?

You will be presented with the option to book an appointment with the doctor to further discuss the test results. The appointment will last about 30-60 minutes (includes the time the doctor needs to study the results), during which professional interpretation, further advice, and a possible therapeutic plan, based on your results, will be provided.

Privacy policy:

The original sample material is destroyed after 3 months, so that there are no names or other identifiers on the samples. No other research or analyses are performed without separate permission from the patient. We do not give or sell the results to any third parties.
